About the Artist...
I decided to become a full-time potter in the fall of 2005, after two years of dealing with two separate cancer diagnoses, many surgeries, and four months of chemotherapy. I had dabbled in pottery and dreamed of someday having my own studio for nearly 30 years. Cancer made me realize that I'd better do something besides just thinking about my dreams.
The name, Yellow Feather Pottery, is in honor of a small yellow finch that repeatedly crossed my path as I ran and walked my exercise route during the months I underwent chemotherapy. The flash of yellow as it flew overhead, at the same spot in my route each day, somehow gave me the courage to put aside my self-doubts and go for it.
I create functional as well as decorative pieces, sometimes hand-building and other times using the potter's wheel. I use a variety of cone 6 clays, mix my own glazes, and fire in a small electric kiln in my basement studio. All my functional pieces are food safe, microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe, and my garden sculptures will hold up fine out in the weather.
Finally working with clay on a full time basis has been not only exciting and fulfilling, but healing as well. I hope to be able to call myself a potter for many years to come, and I eagerly look forward to the ways my work will evolve over time.
